In Basel, Switzerland's third largest city, we find the Meret Oppenheim Tower. The railing, manufactured by Webnet Frames a central part of the building's design, playfully creating an incredible effect of transparency and translucency depending on how the light falls on the facade.
The building is a whopping 85 meters high, but its size is perhaps the least impressive. In addition to the design of the railings, it is clad with aluminum folding panels that act as blinds for the apartments.
When all the blinds are closed, the building takes on a dark gray hue, but when they open, the light is refracted and creates an admirable experience of light spots.
Architects Herzog & de Meuron aimed to create something extraordinary by playing with light, shadow, and varying degrees of transparency in the material. To make this possible, the almost transparent Webnet Frames wereFrames must. The stainless steel wire mesh from Jakob Rope Systems is the perfect match for the folding panels and the rest of the building, but safety was also a major consideration to ensure that everything fell into place.
Behind the aluminum facade are a total of 25 floors with balconies and terraces extending in all directions, all of which are protected by Webnet Frames maintaining the view.
