Safety of animals

Bats are currently protected or endangered.

In Germany, the 17.4-kilometer A44 motorway between Hessisch-Lichtenau and Waldkappel passes through an animal sanctuary, or more precisely, a home for endangered species of bats, such as the greater mouse-eared bat and the Bechstein's bat.

To protect these animals from crossing the highway, a fence stretching 1.8 kilometers has been Webnet using Jakob Rope Systems Webnet . In addition to its impressive length, the fence is also 4 meters high.

Thanks to the bats' echolocation, they can sense the fence and fly safely over the highway, avoiding collisions with cars and other vehicles.

As Webnet made from stainless steel wire mesh that is both robust and weather-resistant, it stood out from the crowd when it came to choosing the material, but a decisive factor in the choice was that the road is not only used by vehicles and bats, but also by other animals.

A number of animals, such as wild felines, also live here, and since the possibility of climbing on webnet minimal, it ensures that these animals use safer routes to cross the road.
